It was more successful quite a few years ago, before the Trappist beers became easily available. It is (or was-I've seen a modern Duvel brewery on the old road between Brussels and Antwerp) brewed in Limburg (northern Belgium) and had the reputation of being a 'right-wing' beer. Dunno if it was based on anything true, but hearsay was that the family that owned the brewery subsdidised neo-fascist nationalist groups in Flanders. So Duvel was a no-no on campuses and Brussels trendy bars during a few years. That dust seems to have settled today. I find that Duvel gives automatic hangover but I have friends capable of drinking 5 in a row and still walk. I usually avoid it. Dunno about Nathan, though...
