Set the lens accordingly. Take a reflected reading of the highlight IN WHICH YOU WANT DETAIL (if the highlight is small as in the case of tabletop or small product photography use a spot meter). Now OPEN the lens for an amount equal to the difference between the two readings. Example: Incident reading: f:5.6 Reflected/spot reading: f:8.0 (one stop difference between the two readings). Final lens setting: f:4.0 You don’t believe me? Try it! I know that this post will cause flames, vituperations, invectives and other assorted scatology, but……… I love controversy. Joseph
