Consider yourself fortunate that you've acquired a really nice M-mount lens
for about 20% of what it ordinarily costs! The 40 Rokkor is a nice sharp
lens, and on the M6, at least, the coverage of a 40-mm lens at infinity
corresponds almost exactly to the "35-mm" framelines in the finder. I'm no
fan of the CL, so in your position I would just junk the camera and use the
lens.
