It probably weighs twice as much as my Noctilux or more. I guess Canon just decided to use their large mount size to make a huge rear element and match it to an equally huge front element. If they had good Noctilux glass they could have perhaps made it a bit smaller. Makes you appreciate the compactness of an M6 even with a Noctilux on it. In comparison to the R cameras, the EOS 3,1n,A2e finders was very, very dim even with an F1 lens! Although with all this talk about Nikon on the list lately, I have not seen Nikon with a fast lens like this. The next time they have the Canon 50mm F1 in stock, I think I will borrow it and do some comparison shots using the Noctilux. It would be interesting to see the results. A Noctilux is still cheaper than the Canon lens though.
