Subject: [Leica] Use for DR Summicron bugeyes

Spoke with an acquaintance the morning who has a friend who is a Leica M
user. That photographer uses the bugeyes from a DR Summicron as a
critical-focussing aid with his 75 Summilux. Evidently the bugeyes,
which magnify the VF and RF images by some decent factor (certainly more
than the 20% between the 0,72 and 0,85) has the effect of lengthening the
effective RF baselength (similar to the eyes on a 135/2.8). The fellow
simply holds the DR eyes in front of the viewfinder whilst adjusting
focus (he has placed some adhesive felt on the inside of the eyes to
prevent scratching the M's frontplate. I suppose this is a slow system,
and the person had said something about trying to engineer a way for the
eyes to be attached via the flash shoe with a hinged plate so that they
might be swiftly flipped up and down. Most interesting idea, and a good
way to recycle those bugeyes.

Regards,
Nigel
