read thrue some LP issues ten or twelve years ago. Had the same
impressions as you (>articles turgid,  funereal in tone,  and sometimes
simply  boring<). Picked up two issues this year for unknown reasons.
Seems to me it got even worse. After reading I felt twenty years youger
(15!).
