Subject: [Leica] Leica M5 vs Leica M6

Hello Rikard,

I' m a new LUGer too and also an owner of an M5.

To mesuare with an M5 is a little bit difficult (but it's no Problem).
The measure cell is directly behind the objectiv an so it is measuring realy
direct light. For me that is spotmeasurement and not the indirect measuring
of reflected (an in this case mostly diffuse light) in most of the other
spot-measuring systems even in the M6.

It' s necessary to know about that because with an M5 you are measuaring
very very excactly the target you are aiming, and nothing else outside of
the circle. So you must be clear that your measure point is in brightness
and contrast the correct point of your image. With the M5 it' s amazing to
find out the full-contrast range of your target image you are going to take.
So you are able to check out the main points of your image and you can find
out the correct exposere settings. That' s very usefull when you are working
with the zone system in BW.

To find out that it takes a little time and some rolls of film until the
experiance is beating frustration.

If there are any further questions, call me.

Good luck

Jochen
