Its not only a problem of older M6's because the failure was reproducable with several Bodies of the product presentetion at a Leica-Day in May '97. The arrogant kind of the letter Mr. Peter's (he is still in charge at solms, look at the leica-homepage "imprint") wrote, gave rise to contact Mr. Hofmann, Board Manager at that time. I informed him about the whole story and let him know how dissapointed I was (and I still be). A few days later Mr. Brueck, acting in behalf of Mr. Hofmann, contacted me. He regretted what and how it happend and told me that the exposure meter problem in the actual M6 version (also Numbers over 2,000,000)can't be solved completely (but in details). He offered two alternatives: Leica adjusts the meter of my M6 (A+; 1,9xx,xxx) or I can get a new extra adjusted M6. On consultation with my local dealer I decided to take a new one. Some days later I got my new chrome M6 in the case for a black one without manual, without the plastic hood on the X-contact and with a scratched red dot in the lens release button. Big success! Now there were only two things left to do. A call to Solms to ask for the RAL-number of "leica-red" and for the little plastic hood. After a little cosmetics I had a new M6 to test. I was so curious what result the adjustment would have. Mr. Brueck said the LED's won't appear now without enouhg batterie power for the meter. I believe that (couldn't test it), but there was (is) a second effect. The smooth variable brightness of the LED's, when turnig the aperture ring, is replaced by a nervous flickering. This is the true end of my first M-Love but I'm still unhappy about. So I asked a dealer to change all the M-equipment into parts for my R-System and so he did. and Psst: Now, after one year, I ogle with a M4 or a IIIf/g. The Leitz-virus is still working. Does someone else know whether Leica is able to replace an obsolete exposure meter after more than 14 years, may be in the new M6-TTL? Best regards Berthold
