Jim B,

Thanks for presenting a fine analogy of the LUG being a family. Many times
in the recent past, I've had the same irritation that Gary felt when he
first posted his request to stay on topic. After years of being on the
net, my experience is that the LUG magnifies what is both good and bad
about it. The good in that there are excellent technical resources,
touching writeups of photographic and life experiences. Then the bad part
is having to tolerate the chest thumping, the stream of consciousness s***
and offtopic chases down ratholes. At times the bad seriously overshadows
the good. I Just like at times I've had to leave the dinner table when
subjects get too touchy or hot...

And a request for advice - what have you found to be the best way to filter
out the unreadable? Regular feeds and filtering on topic or sender, or
digest mode and hitting page-down? I've been using the latter for the LUG
and I've found myself hitting page-down more often than I stop to read
lately...
