No camera bag or vest, and one camera and one lens if possible. Try using a wrist strap. Only raise the camera to shoot. Learn to judge distance and light. The longer your camera is in front of your face while you are focusing and using the meter the greater the chance you will be noticed. Preset the distance, shutter speed, and aperture before you raise the camera. Be as friendly and disarming as the situation will allow. If you are slinking around for the sake of the hunt (trophy photos) then, in my opinion, you deserve a drubbing. If you are seeking to make images that speak to the human condition, empathize.
