I must confess, Doug, that I haven't done as much serious bird 
photography as I would like and much of what little has been 
done was accomplished with non Leica 180mm and 300mm glass.  I have 
had mixed results with APO-Televid and camera adapter - decent shots 
of nesting ospreys and small birds at the back yard feeders, utter 
garbage of least terns at a fenced off nesting area which - 
understandably - kept observers at a distance where even the 800 mm 
focal length was no help.

And, of course, the best sightings occur when I have no camera.
