Craftsmanship is dying in Japan because of cost-reducing strategies and transfer of factories to other Asian countries. This, quite ironically, has turned out to be a serious problem. Major manufacturers in precision industry have difficulties in developing new products, because most of their craftsmen have retired and have no successors who can make "prototypes". I hope there will be more camera studios making cameras of their own brands, just like watch manufacturers in Switzerland, and craftsmanship will survive in the next generations.
