It is more and more just a collection of press releases and some quick articles. Well, it's a bit better than that, but I have come to expect a lot from this ancient and venerable publication that is supposed to be the last word on its subject. I've got a similar opinion about the British weekly "Amateur Photographer". Looking through some of my father's old Leica-related papers and catalogues, I came across a review which he'd kept. It reminded me just how informative and well-written the old "AP" used to be. There was some discussion in the last few months about how the magazine had badly reviewed the M6, and had published a reader's anti-Leica "flame" letter. This doesn't surprise me; today's "AP" is a poorly-written tabloid-style magazine whose idea of journalism is to invite readers to vote for the Greatest Camera of all Time, and to run a "20 years ago" column which makes sneery comments about older issues of the magazine.
