The distance from the lens determines the focal length. Also, be aware that "very small" pinholes are not necessarily the best. As in glass lenses, there is a problem with defraction scatterning as the pinhole gets smaller. There is a webpage (actually several) devoted to pinhole photography. I don't have the adressess, but they should be easy to find. Pinhole photos have a look and quality of thier own that is sometimes pleasing. Many photographers seem to go through a "pinhole stage" as some point in their learning. I did, and learned a lot--especially about reciprocity effect.
