Hi Robert,

I'm going to be quick as there are American brethern much better at
shooting basket ball than I, but a couple of points.

The R8 will just kill you with the winder, as it's slower than a dead snail
trying to cross the road. Basically the R8 with winder is a "one shot"
camera when you are accoustomed to motor driven R7's! I've absolutely given
up using the R8 as a "fast moving sports" camera with winder. As long as
you keep in mind it really is only a one shot camera for action it's
wonderful.

The lens side the others can answer...  But I think the 400mm 2.8 you might
get some neat end to end stuff. Might be a little long?
