There will be differing views on this, no doubt.  Personally I am  unhappy
if I cannot thank anyone who has been of  help to me, whether on the LUG or
elsewhere.   On the LUG I do it by a direct reply to the individual who has
directly answered my question. Sometimes the expansion of a topic into a
full-scale general debate can mean that it is no longer appropriate.
