My ASPH also came with a lens cap that fits over the shade when mounted and the same cap fits on the earlier shade, which did not come with this cap. My personal preference is for the round, metal, vented shade (12585?), which I find less obtrusive, but I do understand that other people prefer the rectangular. In any case, all three shades fit both models of the lens, so you can try them and see which you like. The 12585 is available on the used market by strikes me as pretty expensive.
