First a note to those pricing out this camera: Check out www.shopper.com
which has a good listing of vendors and their pricing, which now starts at
$494 for Fuji's version (too bad, no listing for Leica ANYTHING). Wonder if
I can get the office to buy me one :-)

Bill, in general, one hooks up a digital camera to the computer via a spare
serial port and the appropriate cable, which is generally included with the
camera (it works, but I'm not crazy about the constant plugging/unplugging)
Most make no special provisions for allowing your computer to directly read
the camera's storage cards, though 3rd party devices of this sort do exist.
Sony got very clever with their own digital cameras, which use ordinary
floppy disks! Only problem is that they're no good for damp or cold
conditions, and 640x480 max res is hardly cutting edge these days, though
it'd be okay for the web or for Polaroid-sized printouts.

Plan on buying at least one extra storage card and battery pack. Battery run
times on digital cameras can be atrocious. It'd help to have good video on
your computer (at least 800x600x32-bit, if possible) but this is not
absolutely essential.

As for your computer situation, don't replace the computer, replace the
techs!
