The Summar name is an old and honourable one in Leica lore and was long used for LF camera lenses, as well as for a range of microscope objectives, giving rise to the famed Micro-Summar line which, together with the Milar lenses, survived into our own age, only being replaced by the current Photar line about twenty-five years back. Those privileged to own Erwin's Leica CD-ROM (WHAT! You haven't ordered YOUR copy yet! Shame on you!) can see the 4.5/120 Summar illustrated as well as a cutaway of this lens in one of the early brochures (VERKAUFD.PDF). It appears to have a symmetrical design of six elements in four groups. Sadly, this is only defective file on the CD, so the edges of the pages are not legible and the full range of the Summar line cannot be read.
