A few thoughts at random: 1. While M prices may seem high, I think LTMs are a bargain. 2. The fact of collectors creates a liquid market for old leicas. Ironically this makes many items available to users which otherwise would be stashed in closets. 3. Many quality used brands sell at a significant fraction of new prices. e.g. I was given an old FD mount C***n by my boss. Thinking I could pick up a bargain lens to go with it, I began looking in Shutterbug ads. I concluded I might as well buy new lenses for my N***n. 4. Take a look at other old rangefinders and notice the high prices copmarable to to Leica. Conclusion: Let the collectors be and don't fuss about the latest King Rootintootin model. As P.T.Barnum said, "There's a sucker born every minute", if Leica can saturate that market, they'll be the first company to do so.
