Yes, Dan. Thomas lights use a sodium vapor lamp. It takes some time (+/- 5
minutes) for the light to reach its max output, so it can't be turned off
and on. However, they have shutters that can be used to adjust the light
level, of obscure it entirely.
I love mine.
