What did happen to hand inspection?>>>>>> Dan, Under different circumstance of actually seeing him drop the camera, I'd have been onto the airline and security management immediately and they'd have been responsible for the cost of replacement. That or the lawyer on their case! The security people are responsible to the airlines, so if you ever see anything being dropped of yours go right after the airline. And a witness if possible! And as far as hand check? I think it has to do with the security staff on duty, many of these people are not the brightest in the world and if they are told everything goes through and nothing about film hand check, then everything goes through. Or they are told "this machine will do nothing to film so just put everything through" and no information about super high speed film. Then they are not going to know the difference between Kodachrome 25 and T-max 3200. To them film is film, it goes through! If you have any concern, it's best to take the matter up with the airline you are flying on to ensure there is hand inspection, but don't expect any assistance if your in the last half hour before flight time. We as photographers have to be very diligent about our equipment and film when boarding planes these days, simply because too many people are supposed to be trained, but I don't have any doubt that many of them have no idea what the hell they're doing other than the simplest of things. "You put bags inside machine. Machine shows pictures on screen!" Like I said before, "Lets becareful out there when boarding airplanes!" ted
