Subject: [Leica] Newest Summicron-M 50mm lens flare

I bought a Summicron-M 50mm new last year to go with my M6 and find it is far
more prone to flare than any of my older lenses. One side of the rectangle,
opposite to the light source, sometimes gets an added and unwanted dose of
exposure. I can't work out why. I've never experienced this effect in 17
years of Leica M photography. To ensure the pull-out lens hood stays out, I
have stretched an elastic band over it. Still happens, though. Why? Was the
old clip-on, cut-out lens hood simply more effective?

Is this a known phenomenom? What am I doing wrong?
