I have never found a lab that would put the same amount of time, effort and pride in processing b&w that I would when I processed them. It does take a lot of time, especially to print, however the rewards are great. It would be my suggestion to at least process the negatives yourself. East to do. All you need is a dark closet to load in the tank and the rest in room light. This way you have control. If the negative is not processed properly you'll never get a good print out of it. I just completed a roll of TMAX at ISO 3200, processed in Xtol, taken with my M6 and the Noctilux lens. This is the first time that I have ever used the combination. I was shooting at 1/250 inside which is incredible. I was amazed at the quality of the negatives. Absolutely like shooting in daylight. I look forward to printing the negatives. I have used the CN film and I was surprised at the quality of the prints. It has been my experience that mini-labs do a acceptable job of consistent processing in the C41 process. It is a very easy way to experiment with b&w. I don't think I want to buy a book and some chemicals and start a mini darkroom yet.... Francesco >>
