Don't forget that it was Corning that solved the problem of casting a 
200-inch mirror for Mt. Palomar. Existing glasses had coefficients of
thermal expansion too great for such a large casting to cure without
cracking. Borosilicate glass was invented by Corning in response...
remember Palomar next time you use a borosilicate (Pyrex, Corningware) 
baking dish!
