Subject: [Leica] RE: [Leica] The best Compacts (£400-£700 appro x)

The Yashica T4 Super sells at B&H in NYC for ~$150.00. It has a fixed 35 =
mm
3.5f Carl Zeiss lens and is very sharp. My recommendation for the a top
ranked pocketable compact. To do any better, one would have to go to the
Leica Minilux ~$650.00.

Cheers,
Mike

Since you don't give a price range... :-)

The two that get recommended a lot are the Ricoh GR1 and the
Minolta TC-1. Other possibilities include one or more of the
Leica models and the Minox series, but I know very little about
either (except that the Minox is entirely manual).

I have a GR1, and recommend it enthusiastically. It gives
reasonable control over the aperture, has a very solid
magnesium body, is small enough to slip into a shirt pocket,
and the lens is good enough to make very satisfactory
11x14 prints. It's a fixed 28mm lens though, not a zoom,
and this may factor in to your decision.
