That said, if your dealings with insurance companies are anything like mine, it does mean you get robbed twice. As for packing weaponry, mace and the like these all have a negative effect in the long run. When you are attacked, the attacker often has the element of surprise to their advantage, and by the time you get your weapon out, your assailant will have beaten you to the floor, or shoot you, and will then take their time to take all your possessions and will often decide to turn your own weapon on you as a parting, erm, shot. Worse still, unless well-trained, you tend to freeze during surprise attacks, so the idea that bluffing it out with adrenalin and bravado is unlikely. Finally, if you carry a gun and decide to use it on an assailant, especially after the assualt, you could end up spending untold thousands in legal fees as you try and shake off that manslaughter charge. In all, it's worth handing the camera over and having increased insurance premiums for a few years. Especially as you can then claim to your friends that the roll of film in camera was the one that proved that you are the next HCB.
