Hi Ted, There are basic methodologies to be applied between civilized persons in order to discuss disputed historical facts. Before anything, these include the reference to precise sources and exclude unfounded clear cut judgements. These elementary precautions have not been applied here, and those who have not applied them launched revolted responses. These exchanges should now be ended. I, as Leica user, have interest in both the historical facts and the current lawsuits. Judging by what I have read on this list during the 8 months I have subscribed to it, references to the history of Leitz and Leica are abundant. This interest for history is one of the most common differenciators between a Leica user and users of other consumer products. It pops up whenever a reference is made to the evolution of a lens construction or events surrounding major pictures shot by Leica photographers. These historical references do not limit themselves to putting a date on a serial number. Most of these threads have been extremely instructive for me. It also seemed legitimate up to now to refer to corporate policies and marketing decisions of the past in order to argue about corporate initiatives today. So why, all of a sudden, should history become taboo. Or is that taboo limited to, let us say, "Leitz corporate policies in the years between 1933 and 1945" ? As I wrote in an earlier post, the current lawsuit is interesting in the sense that it should bring an end to innuendo and hearsay when refering to the attitudes of important German corporations during those terrible years. It will be specifically interesting for any leicaphile wishing to have a complete update on the history of Leitz. I am also interested in the way the current Leica management will respond to the challenge. I spend thousands of dollars of hard earned money with that company. I am not indifferent to its current ethics. Friendly regards Alan Brussels-Belgium PS The LUG list archives are absolutely NOT user friendly. It is very difficult to trace an old message. I personally have no trace of previous discussions on the subject....
