The optical formula on this lens hasn't changed since 1961. The first Summilux design of 1959 is merely an updated Summarit 1.5 (1949-1960), which is itself a coated version of the Xenon which dates back to 1936. To say this design is long in the tooth is an understatement. Leica probably will change this lens to the R lens optical formula, just as they did with the 90/2.8 Elmarit. Bill Rosauer
