Subject: [Leica] Leica Serial Numbers

Is there any type of logic or sense to the serial number sequencing that
Leica uses?  I gather the last several digits refer to the actual production
number, but how about the first numbers used?  Do they signify a certain
assembly plant?  Date of construction?  Country of origin?  Has anybody ever
bothered to figure this out?
