Interesting to hear about the design and your thoughts on the 100/3.5 lens. I found one for 20GBP recently and dismissed it as being not really very interesting, admittedly I haven't shot any pictures with it. Now that I've read your thoughts, I'll certainly dig it out and try it. Thank you. jem ---------- From: 'leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us' Sent: 01 May 1998 21:51 To: KIMEJ44; 'leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us' Subject: Re: Re: [Leica] Canon 85/1.8 LTM The Canon f1.8 85mm lens is a short telephoto with a Leica screw mount. It can be fitted to M series Leicas with a screw to flange adaptor, preferably 90mm. The lens has four components, five elements and is of the improved Gauss type. High index glass is used in the front element. Correction is quite good except at the maximum two apertures. There is slight undercorrected spherical abberation when wide open giving a softer delineation. This lens is a modern version of the 90mm Thambar, except much better, and would be a great portrait lens. For a super sharp short telephoto, try the Canon f3.5 100mm lens. It beat most of what Leica had to offer up to 1990 and sells used for about $150. It makes a perfect telephoto lens for the CL or CLS since the viewfinders of those cameras show about a 100mm field at the 90mm setting. LarryZ.
