Subject: [Leica] Re: M3 advantages and disadvantqages

Aside from the fact that Leicaholics consider the late model M3s the finest
Leicas ever produced, the real reason for getting an M3 for use with longer
lenses is the greater magnification of the view/rangefinder. The frame line of
the 135mm lens is useable and the 90mm frame line fills half the finder.
Further the greater RF magnification insures greater focusing accuracy with
the longer lenses. In looking for a used M3, you must be certain that the
viewfinder is clear with no signs of dimming on the RF. Replacement of this
unit can cost up to $500.

Interestingly you can buy two bodies, an M3 and an M2, for the cost of one M6.
Have the best of both worlds. - LarryZ
