I'm in the Coast Guard Reserve and I have done five, or perhaps six, active duty periods there. Each visit was better than the last. It has become my favorite US city. I was there in August, 1989, right before Hurricane Hugo hit, and again in February, 1990. Going back and seeing the devastation so soon after the storm was one of the most painful things I have ever done. It's a gracious city with warm, friendly people. And as Tina alluded to, if you can't find a superbe meal in Charleston, you're just not looking. >>Tina, >> >>I am investigating the possibility of a move to Charleston, S.C. I would >>have to take a pay cut and I was wondering if you could give me the low down >>on cost of living, how much you like or don't like Charleston, etc. Perhaps >>you could e-mail me at brslomo@erols.com. >> >>Thanks in advance, >> >>Bruce S. >> >Hi, Bruce: > >I'm sorry I'm late answering your question, but I was in Charleston! The >LHSA shoot was there this week-end and it was wonderful. Charleston is my >favorite city in the USA and one of my favorite cities in the world. Every >time I visit there, I want to buy a house and move there. I still may do >it some day. If you are moving from anywhere except the South, you will >probably have a decrease in living costs. Restaurants are fantastic - lots >of fresh seafood. The city is very diverse ethnically and is a college >town with the College of Charleston - one of the state colleges of South >Carolina - right in the middle of town. Charleston is a walking city. We >have stayed in bed and breakfasts in the heart of Charleston and not even >gotten in our car for a week. There is a lot of support for the arts. An >annual arts festival - Spoleto - attracts people from all over the world. >Have I sold you yet? Go for a visit and you won't regret it! Let me know >if I can answer any questions or help in any way. I envy your possible >move! Good luck - TIna >______________________________________________________________________ > >Tina Manley, ASMP ><http://www.photogs.com/manley/index.html> ><http://www.aperture-photo.com/site/reportage/manley/manleyframeset.html> ><http://www.onlineartistleague.com/manleyt/portfoli.htm> >
