I realize that there are (at least) two types of scanners, at least in the context of this message. 1. Page or document scanners. Devices that scan paper images, i.e. photographic prints, magazine pages, memos and the like. 2. Slide or transparency scanners. Devices that scan mounted (and perhaps unmounted) chromes. In some cases, such as the HP 6100C, a document scanner has a limited ability to scan chromes.
