Eric,

One small mistake!  The new 28-70 is a Kyocera (also makes most Contax lenses)
design.  The original Sigma 28-70 has been discontinued, as well as the
35-70/3.5.

One thing I don't understand is why the current 28-70 and 35-70 lenses do not
have parallel focussing mounts.  Sure makes it hard to use a polarizer on
them.
