This is my final assessment : Japan - cost US$1200 including shipping. The painter is a master and highly recommended. Waiting list is 6 months. The issue is the high cost. Solms - apparently, they can replace the top plate. The problem is that I will have a half-brass M4 and if the black chrome is like the new M6 ones, I will have an M4 with 2 shades of black. Stephan, you are probably right, I will lose the originality of my M4. US - most practical and cheap. One of my friends wrote to me with an idea to just tape up the areas where the paint is going off. To a certain extend, I understand that repainting only enhances the physical satisfaction. There is really nothing wrong with the functioning of this camera. I am considering Tom's rapidwinder very seriously for my M4. To install the rapidwinder, I will have to send my M4 to Mr Mueller, Canada, for some modification and CLA. Perhaps, he can also offer some advise for paint touch-up. Finally, my last question : My Black M4 is definitely not black paint. How do you distinguish between a black chrome and black enamel? The paint on my black M4 seems to be more shiny than my black chrome M6?? Thanks, Lee
