The Tiltall tripod was designed and manufactured, initially, by the C.M.
Marchioni brothers in Rutherford, New Jersey.
Its all-aluminum construction was finished in silver anodizing. The two
brothers would machine enough parts for a certain number of tripods and then
assemble them. All of the machining and assembly was completed in their
garage.
The Leica version came in the early seventies and was black painted, not
anodized, and cost 40% more.
I can only speculate that Bogen (Manfrotto) and Gitzo are part of the reason
for the Tiltall demise. Of course Star-D is responsible for a cheap imitation
of the venerable tripod.
