I sound like a kid who has been waiting forever for a new bike or a new sled. The winder does integrate well with the R8. As mentioned earlier on the LUG, you need the larger D123 lithium batteries to power the winder and camera. Some interesting observations: Speed seems just a bit under 2 frames per second. Very quiet - major benefit for any winder. No "on" or "off" switch. Solms did a good job with their solution. If you don't want the winder to do its thing after you trip the shutter, leave the advance lever out a bit and the winder won't work. You can then very discretely wind the film manually. Simply put the advance lever back in the parked position against the body and the winder resumes its job with the very next exposure. Nice feature. Rewind function will leave the film leader out about an inch. If you want it wound all the way in the casette, push the rewind button again on the winder and it gets sucked fully into the cassette. Also nice feature. The one year wait for worth it. Since I don't need a faster motor, this will become a permanent part of my R8. I'm glad Ted talked me into the R8 from Canon F1-ns. Thanks Ted!! Now I have more important decisions. Do I get a new 50/1.4 Summilux to complete my set of 50mm Leica M lenses? <bg> Happy Shooting, Richard - ----------------------------- Richard Clompus, OD West Chester, PA, USA
