What are your >sources? As a journalist, I would stay out of this, unless it was my beat. As a photographer, Leica, among the many other reports I've read says the new one is better. In fact, there was a report by someone on Compuserve, I believe, who said that Leica and Zeiss both have decided that for the most part two aspherical surfaces in a lens introduce more problems than they correct. And the new lens has newer formula glass, and Leica has worked hard to make it as good as they can. And their basic philosophy that if the redesign a lens, they make it better. I know many would dispute that last statement. They're welcome to their opinions. I've yet to find a newer Leica lens I would not prefer to an older one. That, obviously only applies to the lenses I've owned and used. I did see some pictures taken with the older lens, and I can tell you for sure it's not any better than my lens. And I think mine shows some better control of sharpness across the whole image. Note: That's a sample size of one of each. ========== Eric Welch St. Joseph, MO http://www.ponyexpress.net/~ewelch He who laughs last thinks slowest!
