The price for the HP Photosmart scanner in Sweden is 3.905 Skr >(~$480), and I am very tempted to order one. >My question is: -I know that lots of LUGers are using film scanners, what do >you think of this one, compared to more expensive ones? (This one has 2.400 >dpi and 30 bits color) Hans - I've also heard good reports of the Photosmart, but I'd also have a look at the Nikon scanners. I have an LS-20, which produces excellent results from 35mm. colour negs and, I'm sure, from slides. For what it is, it's very reasonably priced. There's also the LS-1000, which has a batch slide facility, but was out of my price range. Both Nikons run on an excellent German Photoshop plug-in called Silverfast from Lasersoft. You can download a demo from their website at: www.lasersoft.de The software is easy to use, even for a scanning tyro like me. It also scans at much higher speed than my Microtek flatbed equivalent. A4 prints from about 1/3 of the neg are very crisp indeed.
