A nice Yankee Leica technician (not Northvale) did the work. It wasn't as simple as we thought, and cost a bit more than the $650 mentioned. The camera is wonderful: negative comments about the M6J finder probably come from people who haven't used it much. I understand that the new .85x finder has a slightly longer base length than the M6J unit, therefore slightly higher Effective Base Length. That explains why the extremities may be difficult to see (so says Lucien). I don't have that problem with mine. Camera value? Who knows. I guess that an internal modification of this type barely increases the value of the camera, despite the costs involved. But great for a shooter, and I did this mostly for benefits at 35 and 50 mm wide open.
