Subject: Re: [Leica] Question: R8 and lenses without ROM

Jim,
I loaded the flash, the 70-180 ROM , and played to see what was happening.
The Head of the Metz flash showed a focal length of 85mm and marked it as a
zoom lens.

However I decided to see what information was transmitted to the Metz flash.
When in aperature priority mode, the Metz unit showed the F stop setting of
the lens. When in T priority it showed the min. F stop setting . In the P
mode it would only stop down to F5.6 here in the room I am in. No film in
camera, but asa set at 100. In all camera modes, the metz unit also showed the
distance the flash would be useful. I had the unit set on TTL The Flash unit
stayed at 85mm unless I manually put it at something else. In the case of the
70-180 lens the Metz unit only has 70 or 85 mm settings that would be
pertinent unless they would be set manually.

I wish Leica would explain what they were shooting at on the ROM chip on a
zoom lens.
