They are. Maybe not as bad as the R8, but I don't use flash for my main light very often. So I will grant you, if ROM doesn't do distance information, then the F5 might have a slight edge, but it's not important enough to give up Leica glass. And the F5 does not have built in flash metering, or cordless TTL multiflash. That, to me, makes the R8's system better. Of course, you can put Metz on a Nikon.
