You reasoning is flawed. The R series bodies are vastly superior to the X700. Selective metering, more exposure modes, more rugged and brighter viewfinder. And you can hook Leica lenses up to them. The 24 Elmarit might be a lens originally designed by Minolta, but you can't get it on a Minolta camera. The SLs are no where near as flexible as an R7 or R8, and for not much less money. And R8s are not based on anything from any company but Leica. Period. End of story.
