You had me stumped for a minute, but then I remembered from the days when I had an F3. The reason it doesn't need linear polarizers on the F3 is that it doesn't use a beam splitter. It's actually a bunch of tiny little holes drilled in the silvering of the mirror that lets the light through. A beam splitter, as a matter of fact, is a polarizer of sorts.
