My 35/2,8 is a 1731224 and it has the set screw. I think that even the later ones can be taken apart, but better ask somebody who really knows. Reinhold Mueller or Sherri Krauter would be good sources for that. I have a certain affinity for those older lenses, they might not be as sharp as the latest and the contrast is somewhat lower, but they feel right on old M2's and M3's. The Summaron 35/2,8 is a stellar performer and a good "less pricey" alternative to the Summicron 35 and buy the time you hit 5,6 it is difficult to tell the difference anyway. Marc Small can probably tell us what the cut-off # number is for the setscrew version versus the non setscrew. I am trying to reorganize my bookshelves and where before I could find things with difficulty, it is now impossible and all my Leica reference material is piled on the floor in unsorted piles. It is a millenial project and if the world ceases to exist after midnight dec 31,1999 I will not have to finish it. Procrastination might carry its own reward! Tom A.
