Alf - There is a confusing issue about the Canadian IIIGs. The very rare
ones actually have "Ernst Leitz - Canada Limited MIDLAND Ontario"
engraved on the top an are worth upwards of $5000, while the production
version was also made in Canada but has "Wetzlar" engraved and sell
for around $2500 in Mint condition. I own one of the production versions.

There is an interesting story connected with this; about 5,000 lllf Leicas
were made in Canada before the advent of the IIIg and they were not
readily accepted by the general public. The "Mystique" of Leitz Wetzlar
prevailed and these cameras (with the exception of about 300) had their
top-plates replaced with ones that said "Leitz Wetzlar".

 Happy Holidays,

 Marvin
