I have had mine for about a month, and have not used my M6 without it since the day I got it. forgetting the function of the winder, it improves the feel of the M cameras. It adds little weight, but for that you get just a bit more to hold on to, and, it turns out that for me, a bit more is just right. I don't have big hands (never could get the feel of an F4s), but the slightly larger M with the winder feels surer in my hands. In only a month--maybe 25-30 rolls of film--it is already getting smoother to the point that it now has that same liquid motion of the Leica shutter. It doesn't say Leica on it, but it is a marriage to which even the high priests in germany will offer their blessing. But all that wouldn't matter if it wasn't simply the best way to advance the film going. I prefer it to a motor. It's lighter and quieter, and when you need to, you can wind it slowly and it's all but silent. I have always used motor driven camera primarily because I am left eyed, but I am learning from this tool that I am a manual advancer at heart. I picked up my winderless M4-P today and it felt funny; it looks like I'll be needing another. Lastly, Tom is a peach of a guy. I've had a few enjoyable telephone conversations with him, learned from his advice on the LUG and look forward to meeting him one of these days at a Leica gathering.
