Back when I used to photograph for the daily newspaper one of the few benefits I derived from my two-pack-a-day cigarette addiction was the free cellophane wrapper. Ever so convenient when it came time to perfect the imperfect. Also, lets not forget that especially with women (black & white) it doesn't hurt to print the skin tones a little light so there is less skin detail. Look at all the b&w fashion ads if you want to see lack of skin detail. Nowadays, I have some bobinette (black mesh) stretched over a hole in cardboard that I use for diffusion after having forgotten to photograph deserving subjects with softening filters. And does everyone really expect to look 15 years younger and 20 pounds lighter? Carl S.
