It depends on the individual camera.

On Leica M lenses, the shell on which the rangefinder cam bears moves in
and out as the lens focusses. On the 40mm Summicron, the shell stays in
the same place but is ground in a spiral shape such that the cam moves
in and out as it rotates. On a CL/CLE body, the cam is in a
standardised position - on an M body, its position can vary with
rangefinder adjustment.

So - a given M body _might_ have the cam in the correct position to give
accurate rangefinder readings with CL lenses, or it might not.

Rule of thumb - if one CL lens works well on a given M body, they all
will. And vice versa.
